Fall 2006
25 degrees
It seems everything that touches the Hollywood Roosevelt these days turns to platinum. 25 Degrees, its new upscale hamburger joint, does little to derail that trend. Part rock-and-roll diner, part wine-centric Hollywood hangout, the Roosevelt’s newest addition is all about the cheeseburger and the vino.
The Von Dutch-meets-Moulin Rouge crowd builds their own burgers, choosing between 12 artisan cheeses. Burgers them5elves come in ground sirloin or turkey varietals ($8-$9), both of which are chased down by some 50 odd wines by the half bottle, served in stemless glassware.
For less creative types, previously constructed options like the roasted tomatoes, crispy prosciutto, burrata cheese and pesto are creative with an ItaLian edge, while the build-your-own options are endless (try arugula, jalapenos, roasted tomatoes and Benedictine cheese). The onion rings are flimsy and forgettable, but the fries, when slathered with one of 12 sauces (try chipotle or garlic parmesan), are perfectly crisp and just savory enough.
The Dodd Mitchell-designed space is wrought with chrome mirrors and oxblood leather booths, giving it a sense of bordello chic (the ceiling is brothel-red pressed tin) Prepare for one sexy burger.
Lunch/Dinner: Mon.-Sat, 11:30AM to iAM; Sun. 11:30AM to 9PM.
